Reading Worksheets

All teaching materials listed below have been reviewed and approved for the site, and have been assigned a carefully estimated CLB difficulty level. By recalling the CLB level of materials that you have already found suitable for your students, you can return to the site for other materials at the same CLB level with confidence that they should be appropriate, too.

Materials estimated to be within the CLB 1-3 range:

Materials estimated to be within the CLB 4-6 range:

  • The Loch Ness Monster (comprehension). (CLB 4-5)
  • Tom Thomson (comprehension). (CLB 4-5)
  • Scan a real-life (good for Christmas) recipe for specific details. (CLB 4)
  • Judging opinions, ‘for’ or ‘against’. (CLB 5-6)
  • Skimming for the main idea (4 short passages). (CLB 5-6)
  • Read a table (T/F questions); compare table information to a graph of same. (CLB 5)
  • Mystery story jigsaw passage (one page): put together the parts and write an ending. (CLB 6)
  • Scan a discussion of language learning (6 paragraphs) for specific information. (CLB 6):
  • Summary-writing: two separate paragraphs, with guidance. (CLB 61)
  • Excerpts from the Multiculturalism Act of Canada (decoding two characteristic grammar structures of formal writing, to access meaning). (CLB 6)

Materials estimated to be at CLB 7 or higher:

  • Main idea: select best title (multiple choice; 4 short passages). (CLB 7)
  • Realistic scanning: locate information from table of contents of a computer manual. (CLB 7)
  • The International Date Line (quite complex information; guided short-answer comprehension). (CLB 8)
